Saying Goodbye Before I Go To Jail

I want you all to know I'm going to jail.

For Poaching.

Because I'm going to kill the deer that did this.

She took a bite out of it a few weeks ago. The tomato kept growing. Then yesterday she came back to finish it off.

Damn frickin' deer.

High Tides Love

Took my hubby to one of our all-time fave restaurants last night: High Tides in downtown Bend. It was and always has been fabulous. You know how you have a restaurant that is your go-to place and you always recommend it? Then one time you go and it's not all that anymore, so you find a new go-to place? I'm always afraid that's going to happen to us and High Tides. But last night was once again one of the best dinners ever.

Mr. Michaels hoped for the Tequila Sturgeon, but it's no longer a regular on the menu. So he ordered the Sculley's platter: deep fried halibut, scallops, oysters, and prawns. I was so excited to see the special was my favorite: Asiago-Crusted Petrale Sole. I got the last of it, oh I was so happy!

Both meals were incredibly flavorful, cooked perfectly. My sole was tender and the Asiago crust was wonderfully seasoned and crispy. It also had Crab Alfredo, with nice hunks of crab.

For appetizer we ordered the crab cakes. I'm not taking any comments about who has better crab cakes. It's all subjective and I have found theirs to be the best in town. It pleases my palate to no end. I am still thinking about their crab cakes with my Mirror Pond Ale.

And the service is always rockin'. They only had one open table, with two waitresses. And those girls were on top of it!

Thank you High Tides for never disappointing us!! I might come in one day just for a quick yummy. Crab Cakes and Mirror Pond. Perfection.

KBNZ is holding me hostage!

Is it just my remote... OR has anyone else noticed this: I have the new converter box, and EVERY SINGLE TIME I click over to KBNZ (when it's on local programming) I cannot click out of it! I can't change channels, I can't adjust the volume, I can't turn the converter box off, I can't do anything! As soon as it switches to the Portland programming, I have control again.

I thought I needed new batteries and changed those. But then I noticed the pattern: It's only KBNZ, it is holding my remote hostage!!!

Where My Hummies At?

Our Hummingbirds came back last month, we saw them for about a week and now they're gone! I don't know too much about hummies, and their preferences for the yards they live in... but two things are different in our yard this year:

1) We had put out a couple of different bird feeders near the hummie feeder. The Tufted Bluejays really like the treats we put in them. So maybe the Jays scare them away.

2) We wrapped a big piece of metal around the tree (near the hummie feeder) to keep our cat from crawling up the tree. Do you think that could have scared them away?

Anyone have ideas? I have a friend (shout out, Julia) who has a backyard full of feeders and whatnot and she doesn't seem to have any problems with all the birds co-existing, including hummies.

Two posts in ONE DAY!

I had to share this sticker I saw today on the back window of a truck -- a BIG, diesel-stinking, turbo-charged, jacked-up-about-as-tall-as-it-can-get, fully-loaded, I'm-making-up-for-inadequacies-in-other-areas (you know what I mean, girls), cowboy truck from Idaho:

I'm a certified sex instructor. The first lesson's free.

That was so wrong in so many ways. I don't know if that says more about him, or the girl who was riding shotgun.

They're Back!!

The eagles I obsessed over last year are back! The final snow melted today, and so Cascade and Lady Odell are re-working last year's nest. Fingers crossed for a successful and busy nest this year! You can watch them here: http://www.fs.fed.us/outdoors/naturewatch/eaglecam.html

A "reverse" Auction site

My son told me about this new auction site: www.dubli.com

It has 3 different ways to bid. You buy credits, at 80cents each. And for each time you look to see where the current price is, it charges you a credit. And it takes the price of the item down by 25cents.
You can either set a bid amount, buy the item when it gets to the amount you want to pay, or keep checking the item until it gets down to zero (in which case you win it).
There are electronics, a Mini Cooper, designer handbags, gift certificates, etc... Pretty interesting, I hope it catches on.

Annnnd, we have a website

I can't believe it finally launched - the new and improved Humane Society of Central Oregon website! We've been working on this for a while, and it now has some pretty fun things to look at. Phase Two is already in the planning stages, and work on that should begin fairly soon.

Check it out: www.hsco.org. And if you're on IE6 (or anyone, for that matter), please let me know if you have issues with it. I've heard from a couple people that something may be amiss.

And feel free to let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
